2nd day of SharePoint Best Practices
I just finished my second, and last solo, breakout session at the SharePoint Best Practices conference. It was a blast. I've released a whole army of SharePoint admins that are now SQL dbas. Databases beware! I'll be around for the next couple of days, and will be sitting in on at IT Pro panel. Please stop by and say Hi.

In other news, the SharePoint Conference has just been announced for 2009. It will be the first place to really get your hands on SharePoint 14. The date is October 19th through the 22nd at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Hope to see you there.

Re: 2nd day of SharePoint Best Practices

Do you have presentations or data that you will be able to post to your site after the best practices conference for those of us with no training or travel budget at work?  :)

Re: 2nd day of SharePoint Best Practices

I have the slides, but honestly they won't be much help. The slides don't have much information on them as they're just points to discuss. I don't read them in the session, so most of the information is stuff I talk about that's not on the slides. Plus you miss out on all the great jokes I tell.

In all seriousness a lot of what I covered this week and last are in the book Shane, Steve and I just wrote. If you can't go to the conferences but want some of the information, that's a good place to start.

Best Practices Sharepoint Conference 2-2 to 2-4

Hi Todd,

I enjoyed your presentation of "Best practices for command line administration of Sharepoint" (ITP320) and "SQL Best Parctices for SharePoint Admins, the Reluctant DBA (ITP324) in the conference. I would appreciate it if you can email your presentations to me. I have talked to Ben Curry and he said it would take 4 to 6 weeks for the attendees to receive the DVD and we can email the speakers to email it to us. There is a lot of great information in your presentations that would be very helpful to me in my job. My email address is shown below.

Regards,
Soheila Beikaye

SQL Server Service Pack

Todd, I attended your DBA presentation, I recall you mentioned a nasty bug in SQL Server, but I cant recall what service pack we needed to apply to address the bug.  I neglected to jot this down.

Thanks.

Re: SQL Server Service Pack

If you're using SQL 2005 you need SP2 or later. If you're at RTM or SP1 and you rebuild your indexes your content databases will be destroyed. Read this for more information, http://msmvps.com/blogs/shane/archive/2008/04/01/more-problems-with-sql-server-high-cpu-and-moss-search.aspx

Re: Best Practices Sharepoint Conference 2-2 to 2-4

Hi Soheila,
I've had a couple of requests for my slides, so I supposed I'd better put them up. Normally I shy away from it as I've seen my slides used by other people. That made me a little gunshy. I can trust you guys though. :)
